A couple of years ago I replaced Chrome with Vivaldi. More accurately, I replaced Firefox with an open-source Chromium browser, tuned for privacy. And I didn’t so much as replace Firefox, as I just switched default browsers; I still run Firefox.
In a similar way, I’ve chosen to ditch VSCode and run VSCodium the open-source alternative. They share the same codebase, open sourced under the MIT license, but VSCodium lacks some of the telemetry and tracking that is added to VSCode before it’s compiled.
For all of my uses, VSCodium is a 1:1 replacement.
