Packing Up for Home

It’s our penultimate night here, in Dakar. I’m doing a little bit of gaming, writing, work, and packing.

Tacos Nekh

After two months in the city, I’m surprised to report that I have not taken the opportunity to visit the local Tacos de Lyon; a chain named for one of the dish I fell in love with in Lyon, in 2019. It’s like a tortilla-based shawarma, with fries stuffed into it, and flattened in a grill. These days, they are often referred to generically as French tacos. Sarah and I refer to them as “Algerian tacos” as we first had them at an Algerian deli, with a side of Algerian sauce.

The only reason I’ve been able to go two whole months without visiting the location out on the corniche is because I’ve found a fantastic alternative, just a couple of blocks from here: Chicken Nekh. “Nekh” is the Wolof word for “delicious” and the name fits. All of the food is good, I hear, but I wouldn’t know because I order one thing: a chicken shawarma.  It’s like a tacos de Lyon that isn’t pressed in a grill. Instead it’s rapped in paper and then that package is lightly grilled. It’s great.

Tonight we had our last dinner out, and there was no question where we’d be eating. Nekh na!

Return Itinerary

DSS → JFK → ORD

Two nights in Chicago.

ORD → SEA

Home.

Once we’re home, we’ll have a few days staying south, with friends in Renton. This gives us a little time running around down south, visit family and friends, before heading up to Bellingham, where we’ll immediately begin digging into our work.
