WBC: Let’s Go Deutschland!

Taking an off day in a hotel room in Chicago, watching Germany play Brazil.

There’s a number of Bonn Capitals players on the squad. We were able to pick up several games in the Bundesliga-Baseball* 2024 season, long enough to adopt some favorite players, including the WBC Deutschland team third baseman, Eric Brenk.

* The league has been renamed to Deutsche Baseball Liga

And… They Didn’t Go

Win some, lose some. In the case of this ballgame, they lost some.

Jaden Agassi, son of Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf, came in to a 0-0 game, and began walking batters, before eventually giving up four runs. He couldn’t finish the inning and left, with Deutschland set up for a loss.

I cannot imagine the pressure Agassi must have felt, beyond that any other pitcher would have to face. His famous elite athlete parents were in the stands, and the media couldn’t help working it as a story of his “big leagues try out.” He spiked the ball into the dirt in front of the catcher several times, and hit a batter, clear signs that nerves were getting to him.
